Identify System Deficiencies

Implement fuel system inspections to identify potential deficiencies. Yearly in-depth and monthly basic inspections. If fuel is found to be contaminated – especially water – identify where the contaminants are originating.
A through fuel system assessment is vital. Two of the most important aspects of FQM is keeping water out of the system and reducing identifiable corrosion. An assessment will find obvious areas where water might be entering the system. If water is entering the system, but a leak is undetermined by a visual assessment further investigations should include a line and tank test. Continue until the leak or leaks are found. The chart demonstrates how differing water intrusion sources absorb into fuel. Heavy corrosion can also be an indication of MIC so testing is advised when found because corrosion frequently leads to a leak.
